  9. Welcome to InfoMail
  10.  
  11.         Thank you for showing an interest in InfoMail 1.11.  Since
  12.         InfoMail 1.00 was released I have been surprised by the amount
  13.         of interest this program has generated.  So I took to the
  14.         creation of a more refined program to contain the features which
  15.         existing InfoMail users had asked for.  With the help of my beta
  16.         testers, I presented you with InfoMail 1.10, the result of these
  17.         efforts.  InfoMail 1.11 is a simple bug fix release.

  19. Quick Start
  20.  
  21.         For those of you who don't like documentation, this little
  22.         section of text will help you get started with InfoMail.
  23.  
  24.         1. If you're already using InfoMail 1.00, or 1.10, read
  25.         UPGRADE.NOW for instructions on safe upgrading of your InfoMail
  26.         installation.
  27.  
  28.         2. To set up InfoMail's global parameters, run INFOMAIL -S from
  29.         the command line.  The options on the screen should be self
  30.         explanatory.

  32.         3. To add documents to InfoMail, run INFOMAIL -L from the
  33.         command line.  Select the empty entry from the list and press
  34.         ENTER to enter the details of a new document.
  35.  
  36.         4. Set an environment variable INFOMAIL to point to the
  37.         directory in which InfoMail and its data files are installed.
  38.         This will need to be done before each time you run InfoMail, so
  39.         you might want to put it in a batch file. Add InfoMail's
  40.         directory to your path if you don't want to specify its pathname
  41.         every time you run it.

  43.         5. Run INFOMAIL (with no parameters) after each time your mail
  44.         has been tossed into your *.MSG netmail directory (you do use a
  45.         *.MSG netmail directory, don't you?)  This will search for
  46.         messages and create replies.

  48.         That's it!  If these steps aren't detailed enough for you, you
  49.         want to use InfoMail to its full potential, or you're having
  50.         problems, then there's a nice 27-page manual called INFOMAIL.DOC
  51.         which I hope has in it everything you would ever wish to know
  52.         about InfoMail.

  54. About the Author
  55.  
  56.         The author (that's me!) is Damian Walker.  Currently studying
  57.         Computer Science at the University of Hull, I am learning C in
  58.         my own time, and more general software issues at the University.
  59.  
  60.         I run a Fidonet node Centurion (which is why the name Centurion
  61.         is plastered all over the docs) 2:2502/666.  There used to be a
  62.         BBS here but I closed that down when it was taking up too much
  63.         of my study time.  It's now a 24 hour mailer with a number of
  64.         points and a small but growing file base.
  65.  
  66.         I am interested in Fidonet as a low-cost (free!) entry into
  67.         communications for new users, and as a cheap way for someone to
  68.         run their own system for their own enjoyment and the benefit of
  69.         others (something that is a little more expensive to do via the
  70.         Internet!)

  72.         InfoMail 1.00 was only the first attempt to provide functions
  73.         for Fidonet nodes which were either non-existent before, or not
  74.         widely known (I found out that other Fidonet document servers
  75.         already existed after InfoMail 1.00 was released).

  77.         If time allows, I hope to develop other, more innovative,
  78.         software for Fidonet in the hope that those who use Fidonet will
  79.         find it a little more useful or attractive for my efforts.
